This Tablet Form Windsor armchair is identical to the chairs made for the Reading Rooms of the Bodleian Library, Oxford.
It was made and supplied by the Oxford chair maker, Stephen Hazell (1846 – 1892) and when Stephen Hazell junior had finished working in 1892, it is known that Glenister’s Chair Manufactory in High Wycombe were commissioned to make further chairs of this design. The Glenister’s factory closed in 1990.
This design of chair was made as early as the first quarter of the 18th century by Webb and Bunce (Webb & Bunce, 1790- 1823. Kings Road, Hammersmith.)
