About Us
Andy Hemingway originates from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. He gained a BTEC Diploma in Art and Design from Huddersfield Technical College, followed by a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art Printmaking from Norwich School of Art, graduating in 1991. Since graduation, he has worked as a self employed graphic artist, photographer and illustrator.
My art has always been strongly influenced by landscapes, their uses and the meanings that generations have attached to them. I hold a keen interest in the folklore and history of places, finding a fascination with the origins of place names. Although these uses may change as generations progress, a thread of continuity can often be found that leads back to long extinct cultures.
I find myself drawn to places of a liminal nature. Boundaries that occupy the cusp between states. Be this a high cliff above the sea in the Scottish Highlands or ancient rocks that populate the moors of Yorkshire. I consider that even in the subtopian clutter of modern towns and cities, a stark beauty can sometimes be found.
